Remota - Puerto Natales, Chile

WHICH IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO VISIT PATAGONIA?

This depends entirely on your own interests. Patagonia offers a cold and dry weather, made very unpredictable by the wind, particularly in summer. In the same day you can enjoy rain, sunshine and overcast conditions. Summer starts in December and lasts until February. It is the windiest time of the year, with the longest days. Between March and May there is little wind, and forests and grasslands become tinted with color. Springtime begins in September, trees are blossoming, grass and shrubs are blooming, newborns are being expected, and then comes the sheep shearing, after which the animals are moved to summer grazing land.

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING DO I NEED?

In order to enjoy hiking and excursions you need shoes or low boots that will hold your feet firmly, while letting them breathe. They should be water-proof, with rubber sole and very good traction. Also needed are mountain socks, a wind-proof polar sweater, a light water-proof jacket, comfortable, water-proof and wind-proof pants, a polar or woolen hat that covers your ears, gloves, sun glasses, face and lips sun protection, and walking poles.
